Thales will install the traffic control system between Algeciras and Gaucín

Adif has awarded Thales a € 19.5 million contract to deploy the traffic control system and improve security and communications on the Algeciras-Gaucín section

The project involves the construction of a single track automatic block system (BAU) with centralised traffic control (CTC) for the section going from Gaucín to Algeciras, belonging to the Bobadilla-Algeciras line and measuring 57.4 km. The project will be completed in 18 months.

The aim of the project is to increase the line capacity and traffic flow consistency. Furthermore, the enhancement of security levels will be possible and the reliability of facilities will be improved, as well as the rationalisation of railway operations. The project also includes improvements in current communications, as well as the installation of a train-track system between Gaucin and Algeciras. Finally, the awarding of this contract will include an increase in the energy supply network to facilities, which currently only reaches Gaucín station (Malaga).

Further integration into the Mediterranean Corridor could be achieved as a result of this project, given that it adapts the facilities to the requirements of electrified lines, as well as to the possible introduction of three rails.
