Thales in Hollywood premiere

PRIMA Cinema is the first company in the world with the rights to deliver newly released films straight to home cinemas ? thanks to Thales's nShield hardware security solution!

With offices in San Diego and Los Angeles, PRIMA Cinema is a pioneer in home cinema systems. The company has chosen Thales's nShield solution to address the piracy concerns of Hollywood studios, and on this basis it has been granted rights to distribute movies to private home cinemas while they are still playing in cinemas.

PRIMA Cinema needed a highly secure way to protect digital movies from piracy and make sure they are only viewed by authorised users in their homes. They chose the Thales nShield system, which encrypts content using Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), and the solution was approved by a team of independent experts appointed by the movie studios.

Shaiwal Priyadarshi, Chief Technology Officer, PRIMA Cinema, says: "Piracy is a huge concern for studios and distributors, who lose billions of dollars each year when film and TV properties are illegally copied and distributed. From the outset, we knew that to get approval from the studios we needed the highest level of security assurance available. Thales security modules delivered on all counts, without compromising the quality of the user experience."

Cindy Provin, President of Thales e-Security Inc., says: "In today's increasingly digital world, the need to protect high-value content and intellectual property is paramount. Cryptography is a critical technology in these new security systems. Thales is excited to be at the forefront of this revolution and honoured to support PRIMA Cinema in such an innovative and ground-breaking venture."
