Overview

We have developed unrivaled expertise in space-borne Traveling Wave Tubes with a product offering at frequencies from L-band to V-band and power levels up to 500 watts. Thales is widely recognised as a pioneer and innovator in space TWTs.

We have consistently developed new technologies that have led to decisive improvements in TWT efficiency and thermal performance. These advances have allowed satellite manufacturers to increase transmission power and reduce spacecraft mass. Harnessing 60 years of experience in the conception and production of TWTs, our product range has diversified to now include cesium-beam tubes. These will be integrated into atomic clocks used for navigation systems. Furthermore, Thales has developed HEMP-T ion thrusters, which provide an innovative and modular technical solution that facilitates their integration on satellites. They are used to maintain orbital positioning throughout the lifespan of the satellite.

L & S-band TWTs

State-of-the art products for navigation, mobile video and Digital Radio Broadcasting systems.

The L-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 1.15 to 1.76 GHz at up to 250 W of power, The S-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 2.15 to 2.76 GHz at up to 500 W of power.

C-band TWTs

Unrivalled operating experience for satellite video and data transmission.

The C-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 3.4 to 4.2 GHz at up to 125 W of power. C-band Space TWT milestones (through till end 2014):
  • More than 3500 C-band TWTs delivered,     
  • Over 150 million hours of in orbit service.

X-band TWTs

Products that meet your scientific and military data transmission requirements.

The X-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 7.25 to 9 GHz, at up to 160 W of power and are primarily used for two applications:
  • Data transmission for scientific missions (meteorology, climate, environment), observation of the Earth and deep space planets (Mars, Venus, Jupiter...).
  • Military data transmission.

X-band space TWT milestones (through till end 2014):
  • More than 600 X-band TWTs delivered,
  • Over 12 million hours of in orbit service.

Ku-band TWTs

Products that meet your data transmission requirements.

Ku-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 10.70 GHz to 12.75 GHz, and deliver up to  220 W of power and are are primarily used for data transmission as well as HDTV via satellite.

Ku-band space TWT milestones (through till end 2014):
  • More than 11,000 Ku-band TWTs delivered,
  • Over 500 million hours of in orbit service.

K & Ka-band TWTs

Products that set the standard for data transmission in HDTV, multimedia applications, military missions in K-band and for scientific missions in Ka-band.

K-band systems are mainly used for military data transmission and broadband satcom networks for multimedia applications (Internet/HDTV). Our K-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 17.3 to 21.5 GHz, at up to 170 W of power.

Ka-band systems are used for intersatellite communications at 26 GHz and for scientific missions, mainly to deep space at 32 GHz. Your Ka-band TWTs operate at frequencies from 26 to 32 GHz, at up to 60 W of power.

The K & Ka-band TWTs milestones (through till end 2014):
  • Nearly 4000 K & Ka-band TWTs delivered,     
  • Over 75 million hours of in orbit service.
