Thales further strengthens its commitment to the Sultanate of Oman

Key points

  • Thales presence in the country dates back 35 years.
  • Oman is a key region in the Middle East, one of Thales’s crucial growth regions.
  • The decision for new offices was driven by increasing business opportunities in the country and renewed strategic outlook for the region.

Building on its 35-year success story in the Sultanate of Oman, Thales consolidates its presence in the Sultanate by inaugurating new offices.

This decision was driven by a growth in business opportunities in Oman and is of particular relevance as the Middle East represents one of the regions which will drive growth for Thales in the future. The new offices highlight the Group’s strategy and ambition to increase local operational capabilities, mainly to serve security, ground transportation and aerospace projects.

The relationship between Oman and Thales dates back to the end of the 70’s when the first radio communications equipment was delivered to the Sultanate.  Ever since then, Thales has been involved in a broad spectrum of activities and has partnered with a wide variety of customers including, the Ministry of Transport and Communication (MOTC), Oman Air, the Omani Armed Forces and the Security Agencies of Oman.

This deep bond led to the establishment of Thales Oman in 2010 in order to facilitate a more dynamic engagement with the Group’s key customers in the region.

The new site is in the Al Tilal Complex, at the Muscat Grand Mall and has been operational since the beginning of 2014.

The group maintains various other operations across the Sultanate, including one site near and one site at the Muscat Airport focusing on the delivery of its extensive commitments to the airport project as well as supporting In Flight Entertainment equipment onboard Oman Air planes. A further support hub is also operated at Wudam Naval Base for the maintenance of equipment on board Royal Navy of Oman ships as well as the Main Army Camp to support equipment in service with Royal Army of Oman.

“The Sultanate of Oman is one of the pillars of Thales’s history in the Middle East. The successes we have had here, across many of our business areas, have allowed us to become a trusted partner in the Sultanate both in the defense and civil domains. By further consolidating our local presence and by boosting our local talent pool, we intend to support of the economic development of the Sultanate for the foreseeable future, as we have been doing since we began work here.”

Marc Duflot, Thales Vice President, Middle East.
