Thales Group supplies Egypt with the broadcasting communication satellite Nilesat, providing television, broadcasting and high-speed data services to North Africa and the Middle East.
Egypt is considered one of the most advanced countries in terms of space technologies in the Middle East. In 2008, Thales was awarded a contract by Nilesat, the Egyptian satellite company, for the Nilesat-201 broadcasting communication satellite and its associated services and ground stations. Since 2010, Nilesat-201 has provided digital Direct-to-Home (DTH) television, radio broadcasting and high-speed data services to users in North Africa and the Middle East, including the Gulf region. Thales earlier provided payloads for Nilesat’s first two satellites Nilesat-101 and Nilesat-102.
