AQUAS: Simplifying cooperation in Complex Systems

From air traffic management to railway transportation systems, from medical devices to industrial and space solutions, engineers face new challenges in order to meet the increasing complexity of systems driven by safety, security and performance requirements. Through a coordinated engineering approach, AQUAS will increase the competitiveness of key European industrial domains.

 

Thales Alenia Space in Spain, in close cooperation with Thales Research and Technology, is leading an ECSEL European project that will change the way of designing critical systems through co-engineering techniques.
 

AQUAS is a European project that aims at bringing co-engineering into mainstream practices. It involves more than 20 partners in 7 countries that collaborate together to establish the next generation of tools. These tools will set a new standard in the development of critical systems with a strong focus on safety and security while maintaining the desired performances.
 

AQUAS involves actors from different critical system domains such as aerospace, railway, health and industrial control and will be looking to extend its practices to other domains in the near future.
 

The Consortium led by THALES has successfully organized the 1st year Review from 7-8 of June 2018 in Brussels, Belgium in front of the European Authorities. ECSEL JU and their experts provided a positive feedback and encouraged the Consortium to keep on the track of providing interesting results.
 

AQUAS has already delivered a definition of the Demonstrator architecture for the abovementioned domains. These demonstrators are planned to be implemented in the 2nd year of the project.
 

All these developments in the space domain will be implemented as pilots by Thales Alenia Space in Spain and then made available to the rest of the corporation through Thales Research and Technology. Hence, any interested business line can implement state of the art co-engineering techniques to improve its efficiency and reduce its costs while maintaining the highest reliability, dependability and quality standards for its products.
