In the Defence domain, the Group has established a solid position as a main supplier to the Turkish Navy. A substantial part of the Turkish Navy’s fleet is equipped with Thales’s naval radars and combat systems.
In 2014, Thales delivered the final standard for the maritime patrol aircraft as part of the MELTEM II programme. MELTEM II covers six maritime patrol aircraft, three maritime surveillance aircraft and the provision of ten additional AMASCOS maritime patrol systems.
Thales’ other major defence-related successes in Turkey include:
- Thales’ 3D radar surveying military air space.
- Thales’ HF tactical radio used by Turkish Special Forces.
- Land Forces using Thales tactical SATCOM systems.
In Kazakhstan, Thales has supplied the first Ground Master 400 long-range air defense radar to the Kazakh Air Force in 2014. The same year, Thales has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to supply 20 Ground Master 400 long-range air defence radars. In 2015, a new contract has been awarded to supply a second long-range air defence radar.
