Thales’ presence in Turkey is based on a long standing heritage related to space and ground segment domains. Most of all Turksat satellites have been provided by Thales Alenia Space as well as the associated control and mission centers.
In May 2015, Thales Alenia Space, Telespazio and SSM (Undersecretariat for Defence Industries) announced that the Göktürk-1 observation satellite for the Turkish Ministry of Defence was been shipped to Ankara AIT centre to start environmental tests. Thales Alenia Space has built the Göktürk-1 observation satellite and has developed the assembly, integration and test center in Turkey.
In December 2016, the Earth observation satellite Göktürk-1 was successfully launched.
In Turkmenistan, Thales Alenia Space built the telecommunications satellite, launched in April 2015 and fully operational in orbit. This first national satellite telecommunications system ensures enhanced, secure telecommunications for the country.
For Kazakhstan, Thales Alenia Space won a contract in 2011 to build the KazSat3 communications satellite.
Moreover, Thales Alenia Space is present in Russia since 1992 thanks to the cooperation with Russian industry and in particular with ISS-Reshetnev and now though the Universum Space Technology Joint Venture. Up to now, Thales Alenia Space has provided more than 15 payloads and a satellite dedicated to the Russian market.
