To welcome spectators to the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Thales supported the expansion of the Delhi Metro with a fully contactless automated fare collection system combining smart cards and tokens. The current system covers 128km and 56 metro stations and bus stations. Frequent metro users benefit from loyalty schemes, easy journeys and an integrated transport network throughout the city.
Recently, Thales has been selected for Phase III of the Delhi metro, which includes 79 new stations and 140 km of new metro lines. The company will provide a complete automatic fare collection system as well as ticketing equipment.
Thales has been a trusted partner on the Delhi metro system for more than 12 years. Its fare collection solutions have been selected for lines 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8, corresponding to Phases I and II of the new metro system. Thales fare collection systems are helping to make public transport more attractive to Delhi's citizens and reduce congestion in an urban area where road traffic is particularly dense.
