    Thales Alenia Space (TAS) has more than 40 years’ experience in designing, integration, testing, operation and commissioning of innovative space systems.     As a Quality Assurance Manager based in our Harwell office, you’ll ensure Space standards and customer requirements are met for the assigned space project(s). Supporting bid teams by reviewing product and quality assurance requirements; and creating or amending product assurance procedures in line with the bid requirements.

    Key responsibilities

    Key Quality Responsibilities and Tasks:
    • Audit performance, including sub-contracts & suppliers
    • Interface with TAS-UK management
    • Responsibility for the quality activities associated with TAS-UK sites e.g, Harwell, Belfast & Bristol
    • Interface with other TAS Quality organizations
    • Customer’s satisfaction
    • Quality Management System implementation and review
    • Improvement Plan definition and follow up
    • Quality reporting including Veto right and duty of alert
    • Inputs to the Company Quality dashboard
    • QA support for Company Certifications
    • Lessons learnt implementation
    • Supplier Quality Assurance: Assure the Quality Requirements are imposed on subcontractors/ suppliers.
    Key Product Assurance Responsibilities and Tasks:
    • Establish the PA Plan for assigned projects and assure implementation
    • Ensuring Product Assurance requirements are met within the project(s)
    • Representing Product Assurance at product lifecycle reviews
    • Liaising with Customers, Prime Contractors and/or the European Space Agency (ESA) on quality/product assurance issues.
    • Providing support within projects and bids to deliver product assurance documentation
    • Managing the customer approval process for Materials, Processes
    • Ensuring product configuration documentation is updated at key milestones
    • Chairing internal and external non conformance review meetings
    • Participating in Design, Manufacturing ,Test and Delivery Readiness reviews
    • Supporting the Technical Lead to ensure that Technical Problem Reports are resolved and the solutions are adequately documented and implemented.
    • Product certification: Inspect and accept/reject the products to enable certification to the Customer requirements.
    Skills, qualifications and experience

    • Degree or higher education qualification in an Engineering or QA discipline and have experience of quality or product assurance in a similar industry
    • Ability to work independently and be able to communicate professionally with customers, prime contractors and the European Space Agency
    • Knowledge and experience of product/quality assurance systems
    • Strong communication skills and ability to liaise clearly across disciplines
    • Knowledge of electronic components and circuit board assembly processes
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
    • Working knowledge of Quality Standards e.g: ISO 9001, EN 9100, AQAP 2110,
    • Basic knowledge on Reliability, Materials, Processes
    • Knowledge of European Space Standards (ECSS) would be advantageous
    • Experience of working in the Space, Defense or Aerospace industries

    The Secure Communications and Information Systems (SIX-AUS) business unit delivers military ICT solutions, secure communications, electronic vehicle integration, cyber security, intelligence services and equipment support services.  

    We work for the Department of Defence and other parts of the Australian Government as well as for commercial clients, e.g. in providing virtually all of the banks in Australia & New Zealand with the crypto technology necessary to keep financial payments secure.

    SIX Australia & New Zealand comprises three business units, located mainly in Sydney & Canberra, but also with growing teams in Melbourne & Perth.  They are:

    The primary purpose of this position is to manage the design, development and implementation of a defence secure standard operating environment with voice, video and collaboration into multiple deployable hardware environments as part of a larger Defence acquisition project.


    The Services Lead  provides technical and architectural direction to a team consisting of both external consultants and permanent staff and is responsible for delivering capability that meets the customer’s requirements, project objectives, and within the assigned schedule.  

    Key areas of responsibility include:

    Manage the design, installation, configuration and integration of the IT system.

    Manage a large team of external technical consultants that are subject matter experts in Microsoft and other technologies ensuring that project requirements are met.

    Work with other project staff to develop cost and schedule estimates.

    Effectively plan, lead and monitor engineering activities so as to enable successful completion of those activities.

    Work within integrated product teams to ensure the successful development and implementation of related engineering programs (eg. Installation, Safety, Security, ILS).

    Keep abreast of technology developments and provide recommendations and advice on technology selection and R&D activities.

    Hold Australian security clearance to NV2
    Eligible to obtain authorisation to work with ITAR controlled equipment and technology
    Occasional interstate travel may be required



    Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computing, Network/Communications, Electronics or other related discipline, or comparable working experience 


    Demonstrated technical proficiency with current ICT infrastructure and storage technologies and products
    Demonstrated technical proficiency with current Microsoft technologies, virtualisation and security products
    Demonstrated experience in managing teams of technical staff including organising, prioritising and scheduling own and team members duties to meet deadlines
    Proven abilities to provide technical leadership and guidance to the staff
    Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills 
    Excellent stakeholder management and liaison abilities 
    Proven ability to work under pressure


    Broad understanding of Cisco networking technologies and products
    Experience with authoring/reviewing technical documentation
