    Job Purpose

    The Corporate Controller reports to the Vice-President of Finance and is a key position in the Finance department. This position has the primary responsibility to manage the General Accounting Function in line with Thales policies and procedures. The incumbent successfully liaises with operating units throughout the organization and is empowered to ensure the team works effectively in support of corporate objectives. 

    Main Responsibilities

    FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING & REPORTING 
    • Direct the financial accounting and reporting function (general accounting and accounts payable) 
    • Ensure compliance with Thales accounting and reporting policies & procedures in line with IFRS principles 
    • Ensure timely accounting and reporting of financials within prescribed timelines
    • Provide guidance on accounting treatment for complex, operational requirements 
    • Direct the production and validation of company financials in accordance with IFRS principles and Thales methodology as well as Canadian and/or US GAAP for local statutory accounts as applicable 
    • Monthly review of balance sheet reconciliation and financial performance 
    • Ensure the integrity of SAP to support the reliability of financial reporting (chart of accounts, functional areas, cost centre maintenance, approval workflows etc.)

    FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS
    •  Support the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function
    • Ensure accurate and timely completion of Operational Business Review (OBR) packages for CFO review/approval
    • Ensure timely provision of accurate month-end reporting deliverables to the Reporting team and other Thales stakeholders
    • Ensure the performance of monthly variance analysis on financials relative to plan and accurate, well-supported forecast/projections for next quarter and full year
    • Ensure monthly variance analysis of capital expenditure (CAPEX) and department expenses with timely resolution of variances
    • Ensure monthly monitoring of Labour Rates and Cost Absorption Analysis

     

    INVENTORY CONTROL & COSTING


    • Direct the inventory control and costing function 
    • Provide dedicated Finance support to the Industrial Operations team 
    • Ensure inventory is safeguarded and controls are operating effectively – physical count, reserves, adjustments, security 
    • Oversee inventory accounting and reporting for accuracy and completeness 
    • Ensure timely update of standard costs (annually), monthly variance analysis and timely resolution 
    • Ensure timely resolution and communication of inventory-related issues to senior management 
    • Participation on the Finance/Procurement Committee 

    TREASURY

    • Direct the treasury function 
    • Ensure effective cash management, accurate projections and timely reporting to Thales stakeholders 
    • Promote comprehensive hedging processes to mitigate foreign exchange exposure 
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of hedge accounting in compliance with IAS 39 requirements 
    • Ensure timely and accurate input into the Operational Business Reviews (OBR) and Annual Planning process (SBP2) on operational cash flows 
    • Ensure effective coordination with Finance Operations to maintain the schedule of Off Balance Sheet commitments (surety bonds, letters of credit, bank guarantees etc.) 
    • Maintain effective relationships with Central Treasury and banking partners 

    TAXATION

    • Key responsibility for tax compliance 
    • Coordinate annual Income Tax filings with external tax advisor and ensure timely instalment payments as required 
    • Ensure timely remittance of commodity and other taxes (payroll, EHT etc.) as well as filing requirements 
    • Coordinate Transfer Pricing documentation 
    • Liaise with HR on mobility in patriate/expatriate agreements in respect of tax considerations 
    • Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of taxes 
    • Maintain tax documentation in respect of procedures, filing requirements, returns and statements 
    • Co-ordinate payment and reporting of taxes for TT&S (managed centrally by Thales USA) 

    FINANCIAL CONTROLS

    • Key contact for internal/external audits 
    • Responsible for the annual update of the Thales Internal Control Questionnaire (ICQ) with timely input from operational teams 
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls company-wide and provide guidance as required on new or re-engineered processes 
    • Maintain the Delegation of Authority (DOA) table on workflow approvals for purchase requests and purchase orders 

    RISK MANAGEMENT
    • Identify significant financial risks for accounting and reporting purposes
    • Coordinate information requirements with Thales Risk Management on annual insurance premiums
    • Ensure adequate support for significant provisions and reserves

    OTHER


    • Drive initiatives to promote streamlined processes, operational efficiency and enhanced internal controls 
    • Support new system implementations 
    • Provide timely Finance support to operational teams as required and facilitate cross-functional communication 
    • Ensure timely resolution of issues 
    • Direct ad hoc analysis at the request of senior management

    Key Skills and Requirements

    • Experience with large complex and technical businesses is ideal 
    • Strong ERP experience – SAP preferred

    Senior Business Analyst (SBA) will act as a liaison between the business community and the IS/IT/Security department. The SBA will analyze business processes; gather and document requirements; identify needs and gaps; design/modify processes.
     
    The SBA will define and oversee all testing on the assigned initiatives; will define and implement the Organizational Change management.  Will provide input into IS/IT governance, will participate in IS/IT Road map development and Portfolio planning and reporting.
     
    Main Responsibilities:
    • Lead requirements planning and delivery activities by engaging stakeholders from multiple business domains
    • Analyze and document high complexity requirements using the prescribed templates and best practice modeling techniques
    • Manage requirements interdependencies among different work-streams
    • Document the Current and design the Future state of the processes, identify gaps, conduct gap analysis and recommend solutions to bridge these gaps
    • Identify process or functional problems based on a broad range of factors, many of which are ambiguous or difficult to define
    • Investigate the root-causes of problems and analyze opportunities for improvement
    • Analyze complex situations and processes, identify and evaluate alternative causes, identify dependencies and manage assumptions
    • Negotiate with stakeholders competing priorities; Secure stakeholder support for complex and unpopular decisions; Facilitate stakeholder interaction and participation
    • Design and develop use cases, test scenarios and test cases 
    • Develop, plan and oversee execution of test plans, or conduct a hands-on testing
    • Apply a variety of advanced techniques to manage large group sessions or “difficult” customers
    • Conduct data mapping, analyze data migration requirements, produce, or participate in production, of the data migration plans, oversee the data migration execution 
    • Design, develop and implement Organizational Change Manage on the assigned initiatives
    • Utilize best BA practices to design and implement measurable and repeatable BA processes and contribute to improvements of the overall PMO governance
    • Identify longer-term risks and opportunities of recommendations, scenarios, options
    • Integrate and absorb information from diverse sources, process large amounts of data and generate conclusions/recommendations
    • Participate in creation of the high level and detailed business cases and cost/benefit analysis
    • Participate in projects’ planning, providing functional input, work, schedule and budget estimates
    • Analyze and evaluate technical/functional design and ensure the design is aligned with the  functional requirements
    • Develop and/or update training material and provide training when required
    • Assist business community users to prepare business requirements, test cases and other required documents  
    • Participate in the development of the multi-year IS road map
    • Provide timely reporting on the assigned activities/deliverables
     
    Key Skills and Qualifications:
    • 10+ years hands-on Information Systems, Information Technology and Information Security business analysis experience
    • 10+ years of experience working simultaneously on multiple assignments of different complexity
    • 7 years of experience working with remote stakeholders in different time-zones
    • 7 years of experience leading Business Processes Redesign initiatives
    • 7 years of experience presenting and communicating with senior management, local and abroad
    • 5 years of experience working on data migration and integration projects
    • 5 years of experience developing/modifying business analysis processes, guidelines, policies 
    • 5 years of experience designing and delivering  Organizational Change Management
    • 5 years of experience working in SAP environment
    • 3 years of experience working on infrastructure projects
    • 1 year of hands-on Primavera experience
    • Possess or in the process of obtaining BA certificate
    • Possess or in the process of obtaining ITIL Foundation certificate
    • Excellent verbal and written command of English language and presentation skills
    • Extensive business analysis, project management and business related training obtained from university, college or private courses
    • Understand the SDLS, PDLS, ITIL,
