More than 50,000 safety-critical railway instances are already running on Thales TransVital™ technology in the field. With constant enhancements towards digitalization and the use of public networks and cloud technology, cybersecurity has been integrated into the platform as an essential core element. This was an important step to protect all railway products, that are based on TransVital™ technology, against cyber attacks.

The security architecture used in TransVital™ has now been awarded by the EU innovation radar as

  • outperforming in innovation management and innovation readiness
  • and addressing the needs of existing markets and existing customers.

“I feel extremely proud, that our great experts in Vienna are recognized on this international stage for their achievements and expertise. This award confirms, that our innovations are on the right track and meet the pulse of time. With our platform we support our customers in their digital transformation and prove competitiveness on the market. Thanks to the whole team for this exceptional contribution to the mobility of the future.”

Hannes Boyer, CEO & Country Director Thales in Austria

The aim of the EU’s innovation radar platform is to make EU-funded innovations from high-quality projects visible and accessible to the public. It shows the many excellent technological and scientific advances being delivered by researchers and innovators across Europe.

Thales’ innovative cybersecurity architecture has been developed within the context of the European certMILS project. CertMILS aims to protect critical infrastructure against cyber-attacks through the introduction of a certified Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) architecture.

The first milestone was achieved in 2019, with a security certification according to the relevant standard IEC 62443-4-1. In 2020, a first certified Security Penetration Test was successfully performed on the platform, proving the security architecture’s effectiveness.

Thanks to the cerMILS team and the EU funding, the Thales team could bring the TransVital™ platform to the next level. With our safe and secure platform, we will continue to work with rail operators on mobility solutions that passengers can trust.
