In August 2012, Thales welcomed the opening of İstanbul’s newest metro line operating with the company’s reliable signalling SelTrac® CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) and Integrated Communication and Control systems (ICS).
In 2012, Thales signed a signalling contract with Turkish State Railways (TCDD) to install the ETCS Level 2 system, including automatic train protection and GSM-R communications for the 250km double-track Eskisehir-Sincan section of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed line. Since 2008, Thales has been closely involved in the project to upgrade the Ankara-Istanbul line and has been awarded contracts for more than 400km of double-track sections.
In 2014, Thales signed a new contract with TCDD for the renovation of the signalling and telecommunication systems of Eskisehir station. Thales will improve the various systems installed in the station by deploying its ETCS Level 1 signalling technology, which already equips part of the Ankara-Istanbul line.
