Learn how to survive in extreme environments such as the desert, the Arctic and even on the moon, with the help of our survival cabin, christened PIUME (Portable Independent Utilities and Modules for Extreme conditions), and your ability to manage vital resources such as water, oxygen, electricity and communications.
PIUME is the result of Thales Alenia Space’s expertise in manned spaceflights and in orbital infrastructures on board the International Space Station. It is a module that can be deployed in all kinds of environments – polar bases, desert camps, military outposts, oil and gas exploration camps – and is the ideal solution for survival in remote or hostile areas.
The concept presented at VivaTech is simple: you are a scientist or an explorer and you find yourself in a survival cabin designed to withstand extreme climate conditions, such as those found in the desert, at the North Pole and even in space. Having chosen one of those three environments, you then have six commands at your disposal to manage the resources needed to survive: the use and recycling of water, the storage and distribution of electrical power, thermal control and air recycling, data management and processing, remote communication and control, and medical treatment via MediPod.
In this integrated habitat, PIUME offers customisable solutions tailored to the user and to the environment in which they find themselves. Remote assistance services are also available, thanks to the cabin’s connectivity. Visitors who go on this virtual journey will be guided every step of the way by Thales Alenia Space staff, who will be on hand to explain how PIUME could be used and deployed in the future, both on earth, and out in space.
