The Equipment Mediation allows a consistent integration of heterogeneous non-SNMP equipment within standard SNMP management platforms.
Main features include protocol translation and SNMP MIB support for equipment that does not include any SNMP features, but simple serial (RS232/RS485,...) or contact closure management interfaces. Thanks to the EM product, each piece of equipment is seen from a SNMP manager as a true SNMP agent, with its own IP address.
Key Features
- Converts the specific equipment protocol into a set of standard MIB attributes, accessed in read and write modes using the SNMP protocol
- Encapsulates ASCII fields of serial protocols into IP packets and vice-versa, allowing for remote support of serial lines through a LAN or a WAN
- Allows browsing of the MIB attributes with an ordinary Web browser, in HTTP standard protocol
- Provides a routing function, to avoid addition of a dedicated router for management flows at a low packet rate
Key Benefits
- Concentrates heterogeneous management interfaces (serial, contact closure) on an IP based network. Allows the connection to any SNMP-based equipment manager, such as HP-OV
- Uses state-of-the-art free COTS and standards (Embedded Linux 4.2.x, SNMP V2c, HTML, XML). Supports HTTP, Telnet and FTP connections
- Uses a generic SNMP proxy-agent approach to make new equipment driver development easier
