"My job enables me to be in contact with international co-workers and offers the perfect mix between technology, organization and teamwork."

MY PATH TO THALES

I am originally from Romania, where I successfully completed my bachelor's degree in cybernetics. During my studies I started working as a software tester for an IT company in the telecommunications sector. After my studies, I switched to Alcatel in Romania because the company was known for its international working environment and good reputation. At that time, the merger between Alcatel and Thales was already certain. So I became a software tester for Thales in Romania. After 4 years I switched to Thales in Austria due to private reasons. In the beginning it was difficult to find my way in a new country and to learn the language.

Today I have been working for Thales in Austria for 10 years and work as a software tester and work package manager.

MY WORK AT THALES

As a software tester, I test a module of ELEKTRA - our electronic interlocking - called CCBSubit for our main customers. It runs on Linux, which I enjoy very much because I can work automatized. I thereby make sure that everything runs smoothly and that our high safety standards can be met. As a work package manager, I am the bridge between software testers in Romania and developers and project managers in Austria and make sure that communication and coordination goes according to plan. My job enables me to be in contact with international co-workers and offers the perfect mix between technology, organization and teamwork.

MY DAYS IN THE HOME OFFICE

At the beginning of Corona I missed my workplace in the office a lot, but now I'm used to it and enjoy the time working from home as much as working in the office. During Corona everyone started to become more active online and to understand and appreciate digital communication much more. Not a lot has changed for my work personally, as I was already using online tools very often to communicate with my Romanian colleagues. As for many other companies, the corona pandemic meant a step forward for Thales in my opinion, since the importance of digital communication and home office is better understood and practiced more naturally.

WHY I ENJOY WORKING AT THALES

I really enjoy working at Thales because my job allows me to be in direct contact with colleagues from Romania, among others. This gives me both an international working environment and a piece of home at the same time. I also like that Thales develops products that are safety-critical and that I do a useful job as a software tester. Every time I take the train I can see the success of my work with my own eyes and know that I did a good job. This is very nice.
