Thales is a leader in smart signalling and train control systems, enabling our customers to deliver more services and recover quickly from incidents. Our best-in-class solutions significantly increase the capacity, safety and security of transport networks, delivering a more reliable, efficient and seamless journey for passengers.
Urban / Metro
Thales experience in signalling dates back to the 1980s with the invention of the proven metro signalling solution Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC). Today, our fully automated, integrated and upgradeable SelTrac solution has become the global benchmark. It has been installed on 86 metro lines in 40 cities, helping to move more than 3 billion passengers every year. Released in 2018, Thales’ SelTrac™ Generation 7 (G7) is the latest generation of the world-leading automatic train control solution. The system relies on the latest technologies to significantly reduce operations and maintenance costs, while maintaining passenger safety.
Mainline
European Train Control Systems (ETCS) are fast becoming the global standard for maintaining a safe maximum speed for each train. Thales is already a leader in both level 1 and level 2 ETCS. We have equipped 27% of the global market with ETCS and our AlTrac family of ETCS solutions is in commercial operation in more than 20 countries. Our strong customer partnerships, vast experience and innovation in ETCS allows customers to enhance the performance of their networks and infrastructure – and optimise service frequency.
Light rail
Light Rail is quickly becoming the preferred mode of transport in congested city streets and has the ability to transform modern cities. Thales’ advanced LRT & Tramway Control System is a powerful management and control solution. Compatible with any type of rolling stock, it provides operators everything they need to optimise the management of their light rail networks and provide passengers with easy journeys. Features include highly integrated control centres and on-board systems, smart timetable management (including real-time journey information to provide driver support) and synchronised train and private road traffic. Operators cut dwell times, reduce delays and improve punctuality – while passengers spend less time waiting at stops. We can also provide tailored solutions including street-level signalling for lines and depots, priority management at road crossings, automatic vehicle localisation and tram regulation.
