THALES RPAS SYSTEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Fulmar is the aerial system piloted by remote control used by Thales Spain  which  participated in the Ministry of Defense Rapaz Project, and which  became the  RPAS of the Spanish Armed Forces. It is one of the equipments for Thales  to demonstrate its commitment to a technological field that affects other national companies, such as Wake Engineering, a company that signed an agreement with thales to develop light RPAS.

"Something key to boost the business and facilitate the export of our products," says Borja Comino, CEO of Wake Engineering, from headquarters in Getafe (Madrid). Precisely, in 2016, the first international order of Fulmar arrived in these facilities, which will be installed in six new generation patrol vessels that the Destini Shipbuilding and Engineering company in Malaysia is building for the Maritime Safety Agency of that

This RPAS, one hundred percent Spanish, weighs 20 kilograms, has a range of more than eight hours and an operating reach of more than 80 kilometers. With its catapult takeoff system and drop-down net pick-up, the Fulmar is ready for an operation in less than 30 minutes. In addition, Thales has developed the Spy'Ranger, a transportable RPAS in a backpack, for nearby reconnaissance interventions. It constitutes an additional complement to the Fulmar, where a great operational persistence is not required. country.

In the tactical RPAS environment, the Watchkeeper a project of the British Army is, with its more than 450 kg, the intelligence, surveillance, acquisition system of objectives and more sophisticated recognition of the world. In Europe, with an approximate investment of 1,000 million euros, it is considered one of the  most important programs of unmanned aerial vehicles. Thales also participates in the European project of remotely piloted mid-altitude and long-range aircraft scope. They are known by their acronym in English, MALE, and are designed to meet operational needs of identification, location and tracking of objectives, either for civil or military purposes. But a remotely piloted flight implies more than just a good aircraft. It is necessary to guarantee your security and that of your communications, integrate data analysis, and interconnect diverse platforms; hence the expected boom in the RPAS sector. In this environment, Thales also develops other capabilities such as CNI (Communication, Navigation and Identification) equipment, the ATOLS sensor system to guarantee maximum safety during takeoff and landing, regardless of weather conditions; the Satcom (satellite communications system) to protect the flow of data in a safe way, or the light I-Master radar, capable of generating images of large areas and at a great distance.
