Optimising maintenance and operational cost is one of the biggest challenges facing the transportation industry. Thales’s smart maintenance platform, TIRIS, is designed to empower users by giving them access to extensive data on their chosen railway assets, which can support their decision-making process.

DiscoverSupporting operational decisionsThe first challenge in any smart maintenance approach is to gain a deep understanding of the usual behaviour of a particular railway asset. TIRIS captures information on assets, whilst enabling analysis into large volumes of data, in order to support operational decision making. It will tell you when a fault has been triggered and narrow down the reasons behind this. Through collecting asset data and using input from subject matter experts to identify any patterns or trends, a baseline of normal behaviour can be established. |

PredictAnticipating future eventsBy utilising machine learning and multiple streams of data, TIRIS is able to automatically identify issues, as well as tell you what is likely to happen and the reason for this. A ‘Predict’ solution builds upon the knowledge and understanding gained through the ‘Discover’ phase, removing the constant need for asset expertise and complex data interpretation. The tools and technology used to achieve this include algorithms such as neural networks, logistic regression, random forest and support vector machines. Ultimately, the results generated by ‘Predict’ solutions are often incorporated into alarm management systems in order to notify operators to high priority events. The system can also automate the raising of work orders against defective assets, saving operators time. |

AdviseProviding actionable recommendationsTIRIS enables operators to make clear decisions based on a holistic view of the asset and operating environment. The system will communicate with other maintenance systems, in order to inform you of suitable next steps. Operating a maintenance organisation goes further than using ‘Discover’ and ‘Predict’ solutions to better understand asset condition; renewals planning, spares management and possession scheduling are just a subset of the complex operations carried out on a day to day basis. An ‘Advise’ solution orchestrates these complex operations in order to deliver maximum efficiency across the maintenance organisation. This information generated is combined to provide actionable recommendation, as well as a justification as to why this is the most appropriate approach. This level of automation not only significantly reduces operator work load, but also improves repeatability and planning accuracy across organisations as a whole. |

Early Awareness
Support your predictive maintenance strategy by identifying anomalous behaviour, through a holistic view of your network health. TIRIS supports your operations through the timely delivery of notifications linked to relevant thresholding – enabling the right person to be alerted at the right time.
Right Fix, First Time
Enable technicians to fix the issue the first time, without need for additional expertise, information, or parts. TIRIS will provide you with relevant information and root cause analysis on any emerging critical fault. Get the information where you need it by accessing TIRIS remotely on a tablet or computer.
Increased Automation
Accelerate root cause analysis and support the identification of underlying faults. Save time by using a network model to see a visual representation of the tracks and the exact section that has been affected, giving you a comprehensive view of any issues. Data replay boosts complex investigation by providing detailed timelines leading up to a fault for a better understanding of the issue.
Protected Staff
Protect staff by reducing the need for trackside working by making data accessible from anywhere. Remote data download provides a safer alternative to trackside working, as information can be accessed from any location. Furthermore, using a secure cloud application removes the need for physical maintenance of servers.
Real-time Assistance
Assisting the resolution of complex faults by sharing data and synchronizing views with Thales experts in real-time. Reduce fault investigation time and bring further insights to your analysis by working in collaboration with Thales experts; recognised within the industry as subject matter experts (SMEs).
