We are pleased to announce that Thales has just signed a partnership today with Micro-X, one of Australia's most innovative startups!

The collaboration with Micro-X will allow us to offer a new range of X-ray imaging equipment thanks to these XED and CNT.

With more than 60 years of experience in the design and production of X-ray sources, Thales has developed a new technology for X-ray sources, called XED (X-Ray Emitting Diode), incorporating cold cathodes, based on carbon nanotube (CNT). The collaboration with Micro-X  will allow us to offer a new range of X-ray imaging equipment thanks to these XED and CNT. It has 3 parts:

  • Design, development and manufacture of new X-ray tubes (CNT) by Thales.
Combined with Micro-X's backscattering technology* and other Thales Group skills (artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, etc.), they will enable the creation of new generation, more compact X-ray equipment. This technology will increase the performance of imaging systems and provide new portable solutions. Based on our experience in the production of tubes and X-ray devices and on our expertise in several markets within the Thales group, these sources will address the medical, defence and security markets.
  • Jointed sales of new security equipment for the search for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in abandoned baggage.
  • Future developments of compact equipment in the field of security and medical will occur thanks to these new technologies. For example, this revolutionary technology will make it possible to design future security checkpoints at the airport where waiting times will be reduced for passengers. It will also free up significant space for commercial use or increase traffic while addressing the regulatory challenges of faster detection of threats.

From airport checkpoints to counterterrorism activities, to future medical imaging devices, we are at a turning point for both the market and Thales.

This innovative project will ensure exciting developments for the years to come!

We will keep you informed of the main progress of this collaboration.
