Christian Bréant joins Thales as VP, Director Advanced Studies and Strategic & Economic Intelligence

Christian Bréant has joined Thales as VP, Director Advanced Studies and Strategic & Economic Intelligence within the Group's Strategy, Research and Technology department, led by Hervé Multon. Since 2008, Christian Bréant has been Director of Research & Technology (R&T) at the European Defence Agency.

A graduate of the École Polytechnique and ENSTA Paris Tech (École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées), Christian Bréant, 58, began his career in the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) in 1985, after completing a doctorate in laser physics at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and postdoctoral training in the United States.

In 1992, he joined the office of France's Chief of Defence Procurement, where he launched the project to set up the Palaiseau scientific defence cluster, and later became Deputy Director of R&T at the DGA.

Following three years as Deputy Director of the DGA's Industrial Affairs and Cooperation, he was appointed Director of the Defence Analysis Centre (CAD) in 2000, after completing further training at the foremost French military academy, the Centre des Hautes Études Militaires, and France’s Institut des hautes études de la défense nationale.

In 2004, he became Director of R&T for Defence & Security and Deputy Director for Technology Strategy at the DGA.

Christian Bréant was elected as a member of the Academy of Technology at the Institut de France in 2005. He is an Officer of both France's Légion d’Honneur and its Ordre National du Mérite.
