Constellations: a success story!
The successful launch of the third cluster of O3b satellites on December 18, 2014 bolsters Thales Alenia Space's global leadership in the market for medium and low-orbit constellations of telecom satellites.
O3b already offers customer connectivity, transforming lives in far-flung locations such as Papua New Guinea, East Timor, the Cook Islands, Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. Initial feedback is excellent. O3b Networks is definitely the company that, by changing the rules of the game, is revolutionizing the Internet connection market, and we're very pleased to have such a solid partnership with our satellite supplier, Thales Alenia Space - Steve Collar, Chairman and CEO of O3b Networks.
O3b – the Other 3 billion
The company O3b Networks has launched a tremendous initiative in the form of O3b (the "Other 3 billion"), a constellation designed to bridge the digital divide by supplying broadband Internet connectivity to emerging markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Thales Alenia Space built the 12 satellites in the constellation, launched in three groups of four satellites, between the first quarter of 2013 and the end of 2014.
Constellations by the Numbers: 117
117: the number of satellites ordered from Thales Alenia Space for three constellations of low and medium orbit telecom satellites: Globalstar, O3b, Iridium NEXT.
