Ensuring efficient operation of the Norwegian railway network

The Norwegian national rail administration Bane NOR is renewing most of the existing signalling systems on the railway network by 2035. This modernisation programme will increase the attractiveness of rail travel through improved passenger service as well as delivering environmental, social and economic benefits to Norwegian society today and tomorrow.

The past years, Norway trusted Thales to develop its transportation network from ticketing systems to communications systems for Bybanen, to axle counters to Bane NOR.
In 2012, Thales was awarded a contract to deliver new signalling solutions for Norwegian railways through an agreement with Bane NOR. The latest of the six deliveries in the project was “Farriseidet-Porsgrunn” in 2019. The new “Follobanen” will have Thales SignAn when it opens.

In 2018, Bane NOR decided to rely on Thales to provide the next-generation nationwide Traffic Management System (TMS). Bane NOR´s ambition is to have the world’s best TMS system. Thales is providing a next-generation solution based on the ARAMIS™ traffic management system, which will leverage the full potential of the modernisation programme to improve train punctuality, passengers’ safety and comfort and facilitate the mobility of people, goods and ideas throughout the country. It will accommodate a growing and evolving network to contribute to Norway’s further economic development and digitalisation.
Thales proven technology solutions combined with local presence contribute to making traveling by train safer and more reliable for the public in Norway.
