Thales leader wins Woman of Achievement Technology award

Marion Broughton, Vice President Land & Air Systems, was one of just seven eminent women who secured success and won their category. The highly competitive award scheme saw a wide variety of talented female executives from across the UK go head-to-head to compete for the Women in the City Award.

Launched in 2003 Women in the City (WIC) has built a strong presence in London’s business hubs and its Annual Celebration lunch is one of the City’s signature events. Its membership programme and award winner’s alumni make a powerful and influential community.

As reportedly previously, Marion had already been honoured by being named as an award finalist. But on the more recent award, Marion said: “I am delighted and honoured to be named the Technology Category winner. I am proud of my professional achievements throughout my career in what is traditionally a male-orientated industry to have this endorsed by such a respected body really means a lot to me.”

“Most importantly, I feel it gives me an opportunity to support the aims of the Women in the City Awards by saying that we need to recognise and do more to inspire and encourage young women to consider these types of careers. We want the workplace to look like our mainstream society.”

“It is an opportunity to say to these young women ‘I’ve achieved this, and so can you’. The lifestyle is inspiring and the role brings a constant stream of interesting challenges.”

Marion will now go on to contend for the overall 2014 Woman of Achievement Award, the prize for which includes a place on the prestigious Accelerated Development Program delivered by The University of Chicago Booth School of Business at its London campus.

This prize will be presented on Friday, 28 November at the 12th Annual Women in the City Celebration Lunch held at Plaisterers’ Hall, London.
