Thales at Laval Virtual: immerse yourself in Industry 4.0
As a leading provider of innovative solutions to develop critical information systems and keep them secure, Thales is taking part to the Laval Virtual in Laval, Western France, from 22-26 March 2017. First organised in 1999, this event has become the No. 1 showcase for the latest virtual technology developments and use cases. This year it coincides with the Industry Week being organised by the French ministry of the economy, offering an ideal opportunity to come and find out how Thales is harnessing the power of augmented reality, virtual reality, image processing and 3D to help industries embrace the factory of the future.
Industry is transforming itself at the dawn of the digital age. The digital transformation of industry represents a paradigm shift in human factors engineering, promising order-of-magnitude improvements in operational efficiency and competitive performance.
Thales is a trusted partner in many sectors of industry and is known for its proactive approach to new technology. For many years, the company has been involved in major R&D programmes that have pushed back the boundaries of image processing and algorithms to support the development of new augmented reality and virtual reality products. These new products offer enormous potential for optimising the industrial value chain, improving operator training, making production processes more efficient, streamlining maintenance procedures, and more.
Thales technologies have potential applications in all sectors of industry. Based on careful analysis of each customer's needs, Thales's augmented reality solutions help guarantee that operators carry out the right tasks in the right way, boosting their performance and improving safety in the workplace.
Examples of Thales solutions on show at Laval Virtual:
- New algorithms and image processing techniques for automatic event detection and precision measurement based on smartphone photos.
- Serious game using a virtual reality headset to visualise and interact with shop-floor equipment.
- Mobile solution using a tablet and goggles to help operators perform assembly procedures by superimposing 3D computer-generated objects on actual equipment for better traceability, optimised production rates and less risk of error.
- Thales Eye, a remote collaborative assistance solution that enables experts in one location to give instructions to operators in another. With this exclusive Thales solution, field technicians know exactly where and how to intervene on a piece of equipment, even when the 3D environment is not known beforehand. It lets them carry out potentially complex maintenance operations that they could not have performed alone.
Thales specialists taking part in Laval Virtual:
Thibault Vallon, head of the Local competence centre at Thales, is taking part in a round-table/workshop on the theme "The digital transition of the enterprise as a pre-requisite for immersive training" on 22 March at 3.45 pm and he is giving a paper entitled "Thales Eye: the role of augmented reality in maintenance" on 23 March at 3.30 pm.
