ILA 2022

Aerospace will be showcased at ILA as a key sector for the EU and of strategic importance for Europe's security, sustainability and competitiveness. Under the slogan "Airborne in Europe", the European Commission and ILA Berlin have announced a strategic partnership on April 7, 2022 to strengthen Europe's technological leadership and pave the way for a sustainable future for aerospace.

Thales will be present on the BDLI joint stand in Hall 4 / booth 270  as well as in the Space Pavilion and on the AMTA stand in Hall 3.

GO 20 MM

Thales presents on the BDLI joint stand the Ground Observer 20 Multi-Mission (GO20 MM), a ground based multi-mission radar for force protection - with unique simultaneous ground and low-level air surveillance, providing exceptional early UAV detection, in particular of micro-drones.

 Space Pavilion

Visit us at the ILA Space Pavilion and be fascinated by innovative Thales technologies such as the Thales Dual-TWT, the HEMPT EV0 and the multiMIND® - New Space telecommunications payload at the space show.

HEMPT EV0

Thales has developed a new electric propulsion technology HEMPT (Highly Efficient Multistage Plasma Thruster) harnessing our heritage with traveling wave tubes (TWT). It is based on the ionization of noble gas by means of plasma discharge and the subsequent acceleration of the ions, which are thereby guided in a tuned magnetic field, generating a recoil. HEMP engines have a very long lifetime, multi-fuel capability with krypton and xenon, and comparatively low manufacturing complexity. If used with krypton, the HEMPT EV0 becomes much more cost effective for the customer. The sum of these characteristics makes the HEMP engine an ideal propulsion solution for attitude control of small constellation satellites or MicroGeo satellites.

Thales Dual-TWT - Tube technology for today and tomorrow

The Dual TWT is one of the latest product innovations Thales has brought to market to meet changes in the satellite market and global connectivity and communications requirements. Satellite manufacturers around the world are introducing a new generation of flexible, software-defined satellites (SDS) equipped with active antennas and operating in either Ku-band or Ka-band. Serving this demand is the newly developed Dual-TWT - a compact, lightweight traveling wave tube that features high efficiency, low complexity and low mass with a maximally reduced package volume. These features make the compact Dual-TWT the ideal amplification solution for geostationary and near-earth satellite applications.

multiMIND - new miniaturized satellite telecommunication payload for small and nanosatellites

The old aerospace motto "Bigger is Better" no longer applies in the "New Space" of mini and nanosatellites. The new motto is: smaller, more powerful and, above all, at revolutionary low prices. Implementing these new approaches, Thales Alenia Space Deutschland in Ditzingen develops the latest generation of a digital, modular and, above all, miniaturized satellite payload that maps all the functions of modern satellite-based communications. The multiMIND® contributes to digitalization, efficiency and security in applications such as critical infrastructure monitoring and space-based air traffic control. In this context, robust, rad-hard supervisor and power circuitry enables safe operation even under an adverse radiation environment. In addition, the nanosatellite payload component is adaptable with respect to mission-specific complements such as RF front-ends, cameras and specific interface boards.

Tactical Engagement Analysis

At ILA 2022 in Berlin, Thales will also demonstrate its expertise in training and simulation for security forces and present its new development "Tactical Engagement Analysis" to the public. Tactical Engagement Analysis is a new training solution based on Thales' capabilities and experience in small arms training. It is a patented, versatile and portable analysis module designed to improve skills with simulation weapons, airsoft weapons or real firearms. Tactical Engagement Analysis can be used regardless of ammunition type - practice or live. For example, it detects and records shooting events, movement and situation data, as well as video streams and positions, and uses this to create real-time AI-based evaluations of individual shooting actions. The tool can be used during and after shooting to help instructors guide trainees, based on accurate information not normally available. It provides after-action review capabilities with detailed actions and weapon handling parameters in a timeline. In addition, Tactical Engagement Analysis helps trainees improve their technical skills, tactical know-how, and decision-making under stress. Simulations play a key role in handling, procedural, behavioral, and communications training in all operational areas and at all levels of engagement, and provide an essential contribution in training and education of deployed forces and ultimately to mission success. The functionalities of Tactical Engagement Analysis break through the current limitations of tactical training technology and enable new, high-level tactical analytics, more accurate assessment of trainee performance for trainers, and more comprehensive feedback to trainees in real-world environments.

Simulation solutions from Thales

As the operational environment evolves with multidisciplinary threats, rapid technological developments and the increasing complexity of military systems, combined with the growing importance of joint operations, it is becoming increasingly difficult to prepare for and fully train in operations. Thales supports the armed forces to address and overcome these challenges.
