•    The Framework Agreement concerns the modernization of signalling and telecommunication, track rehabilitation and duplication of Qalyoub – Menouf – Tanta Line & Qalyoub – Shebin El Qanater – El Zagazig Line, two key priority lines for ENR, located in the Delta Region in Egypt.
•    The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is dedicated to the modernization of 2 interlocking stations located in Farz and Limon bridge.
•    With this new agreements, Thales strengthens its strong relationship with the Egyptian National Railway.
•    The signature of these agreements will mean an important improvement in the rail transport network in Egypt, which will be safer, more modern and faster.

Thales has been present in Egypt for more than 40 years and employs approximately 500 people (including joint ventures) in the country. With this new agreements – the Framework Agreement for the modernization of signalling and telecommunication, track rehabilitation and duplication of Qalyoub – Menouf – Tanta Line (94 km) & Qalyoub – Shebin El Qanater – El Zagazig Line (64 km) and the MoU to modernize 2 interlocking stations located in Farz and Limon bridge, Thales strengthens its relationship with the Egyptian National Railway as well as its position in Egypt.

The Framework Agreement for the modernization of signalling and telecommunication, track rehabilitation and duplication of Qalyoub – Menouf – Tanta Line & Qalyoub – Shebin El Qanater – El Zagazig Line is a continuation of a MoU that was signed between Thales and ENR in September in Madrid. This Framework Agreement confirms the collaboration between ENR and Thales for two key priority lines for ENR, located in the Delta Region in Egypt.

The 2 lines have a heavy traffic in the Delta region and ENR needs to increase their capacity. Thales will provide ENR with a turnkey proposal for signalling and telecommunication system modernization, for track rehabilitation and duplication - it will be turned from a single line to a double line -. In parallel, Thales will explore both the possibility to implement a national CTC for ENR Network and to add an ETCS L1 solution along the 2 lines.

ENR and Thales also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to modernize 2 interlocking stations located in Farz and Limon Bridge. The 2 towers Farz, and Limon Bridge are located in the heart of Cairo, around Cairo Ramsis Station, the Central Station of Cairo, and will complement the currently on-going modernization of Cairo – Alexandria Corridor. With the modernization of those 2 stations, ENR will have a fully compatible signaling solution with the system already being implemented in Cairo Alexandria. This modernization scope shall enhance ENR operations around Ramsis Station by improving the level of safety as trains approach the Main station from different secondary lines.

Thales has been present in Egypt for more than 40 years and employs approximately 500 people (including joint ventures) in the country. Thales is upgrading the signalling system for the Cairo-Alexandria rail link, the busiest in the country, with over 25 million passengers every year. As a result, capacity and safety have been improved, with train speeds increased from 140 to 160 km/h and headways between trains reduced from 10 to 5 minutes.
