A major technological breakthrough in the field of air defense radars emerged in the 2000s, driven by advances in Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) antennas. Thanks to AESA technology, a radar antenna operates as if it were composed of dozens of individual antennas. It can scan the environment both vertically and horizontally, significantly enhancing radar surveillance capabilities.
Increase radar capabilities by a factor of 100
This new generation delivers unprecedented capabilities in detecting, classifying, and tracking both very fast and very slow objects, even in complex environments such as enemy jamming, challenging terrain, or adverse weather conditions. Thales designs processing boards that increase the capabilities of its air defense and air surveillance radars by a factor of 100, handling massive volumes of data (several hundred billion bytes per second), sometimes under extreme operating conditions.

By significantly reducing the size of filtering components, this technology enables the latest Thales radios to integrate twice as many functions within a single platform. Equivalent to two radio systems in one device, it enhances operational flexibility while simplifying integration into tactical vehicles and mission-critical platforms.
