At Thales we strive to ensure that our people are safe, healthy and supported within their work environment. To do this we have evaluated the most critical risks to our workers and looked at how we can reduce or remove those risks.
Welcome to the Life Saving Controls page for the Netherlands
These guidelines are designed to help keep all persons safe while on our premises. Please take a moment to read them carefully, they explain essential procedures, required behaviors, and what to do in case of an emergency.
Your safety is our priority, and following these instructions ensures a secure environment for everyone.
Fire hazards |
| 1. I call the emergency number (074-2482222 Hengelo) or 088-4995555 (Huizen) and use firefighting resources to stop a starting fire, when I know how to use the firefighting resources. |
| 2. I always keep escape routes and emergency exits free of obstacles. |
| 3. I use the shortest and safest escape route during a fire and I follow instructions from the first aid responders. |
| 4. I will take measures when detection, alarm and fire extinguishing systems stop working due to my activities and I call the facility service desk when a system is not working (074-248220 Hengelo). |
| 5. I request a permit from the prevention officer when I am going to perform incendiary works such as welding and soldering (excluding specially equipped work areas), roofing, grinding, when dust is generated and when working with a cutting torch. |
Working with hazardous substances |
| 1. I have the proper knowledge and training to work with hazardous substances. Look at the chart below to verify which education, training and instruction applies to your work. |
| 2. I know which hazardous substances I work with and what their possible hazards are. This can be checked in Chemwatch or by scanning the QR code of the hazardous substance. |
| 3. I know if the ventilation in my workplace is working properly and what personal protective equipment is needed. This can be checked in Chemwatch or by scanning the QR code of the hazardous substance. |
| 4. I know how to use the machine and other resources I need to work with hazardous substances. |
| 5. I store hazardous materials appropriately, in the designated place. |
Working with electricity |
| 1. I have the proper knowledge and training to work with electricity. Look at the chart below to verify which education, training and instruction applies to your work. |
| 2. I work de-energized and if necessary I know the rules for working under voltage and working at a safe distance with electricity. |
| 3. I verify that a second authorized person is present when working in the high voltage area. |
| 4. I check that the insulating tools I am working with are in good condition for my own safety and for the safety of others. |
| 5. I take measures when I stop working (temporarily) so that no one can come into contact with active uninsulated parts and the electrical installation cannot be put into operation by another person. |
Working at heights |
| 1. I have the proper knowledge and training to work at heights. Look at the chart below to verify which education, training and instruction applies to your work. |
| 2. I only use a ladder/staircase/scaffold when it has been inspected. I can tell this by the dates on the inspection sticker on the ladder/staircase and on the scafftag card on the scaffold. |
| 3. I know how to work safely with a ladder/staircase/scaffold and I know how to position it. |
| 4. I use the available safety equipment when working at height (railings, guardrails, personal fall protection). |
| 5. I stop working at heights when an unsafe situation may arise or when an unsafe situation exists. |
Working with transport equipment |
| 1. I have the proper knowledge and training to work with transportation equipment. Look at the chart below to verify which education, training and instruction applies to your work. |
| 2. I follow the generally applicable traffic rules (that apply in the Netherlands) when using transportation equipment. |
| 3. I will not allow anyone to ride ride along with the means of transportation when there is no specific equipped seat on the means of transportation. |
| 4. I park the transportation vehicle only in a designated parking area and I make sure I know the rules when stopping the transportation vehicle. |
| 5. I use a transportation vehicle only for the purpose the transportation vehicle is made for and I know the maximum load which it can carry. |
Hoisting and lifting |
| 1. I have the proper knowledge and training to work with hoist and lifting equipment. Look at the chart below to verify which education, training and instruction applies to your work. |
| 2. I use personal protective equipment while lifting and hoisting. |
| 3. I check wether the lifting equipment is inspected. |
| 4. I verify that a hoist supervisor is present to ensure that safety rules are observed and I follow the hoist supervisor's instructions at all times. |
| 5. I never walk under a load which is being lifted or raised. |
Lone working |
| 1. I always follow department-specific rules regarding working alone. |
| 2. I know the procedure which I hve to follow when working alone. |
| 3. I know in which areas it is forbidden to work alone. |
Working with machinery |
| 1. I have the proper knowledge and training to work with the machine. |
| 2. I only use a machine when it has been inspected. This can be checked by the inspection sticker on the machine. |
| 3. I make sure that protective screens or devices of the machine always maintain its function, for my own safety and for the safety of others. |
| 4. I use the machines only where they are set up and for the purpose for which the machine is made. |
| 5. I use an emergency stop during an emergency situation or I ensure that the power supply to the machine is interrupted. |
Fall, trip and slip hazards |
| 1. I keep the workplace orderly and uncluttered. |
| 2. I make sure that cables travel the smallest possible distance across the floor. |
| 3. I use cable bridges or another measure to prevent loose cables. |
| 4. I clean up spills safely and post a warning sign near the slippery floor. |
| 5. I will make a safety notification when I detect an unevenness in or on a floor. |
Working in a confined space |
| 1. I only work in a confined space when measures have been taken to prevent suffocation, intoxication, poisoning and fire/explosion hazards. |
| 2. I ensure that a manhole guard observes when it is uncertain whether the measures are effective. |
| 3. I ensure that moving parts of a machine cannot move by blocking switches. |
| 4. I keep gas cylinders out of the room and I use a hose when working with gas. |
| 5. I will remove all harmful substances (including paint residues) from the room when the work is completed. |
Working with laser |
| 1. I avoid looking into a transmitted laser beam at all times. |
| 2. I will cover reflective parts as much as possible (for example, jewelry). |
| 3. I know what laser I am working with and its associated hazard class. |
| 4. I take measures appropriate to the hazard class of the laser. |
| 5. I make sure the laser meets the required amount of attenuation in the form of dB. |
Working with ionizing radiation |
| 1. I have the appropriate knowledge and training to work with processes where radiation may be released. Look at the chart below to verify which education, training and instruction applies to your work. |
| 2. I know what radioactive substance I am working with and I take appropriate measures for it. |
| 3. I verify that the packaging of radioactive components is in good condition. |
| 4. I store radioactive materials in the designated storage area when no work needs to be done with them. |
| 5. I wash my hands thoroughly after performing work with radioactive components. |
