Thales Australia and New Zealand's Digital Identity team demonstrates world-leading digital licence solution at global test event
Thales’ ANZ Digital Identity Team, global Digital ID Wallet Product Team, local partners Code Heroes and Aliva, and Queensland Department of Transport & Main Roads (TMR), participated in the 2022 ISO Interoperability Test Event for Mobile Driving Licence Applications in Brisbane. This annual event brings together governments and industry to test Digital ID Wallet and ID Verifier solutions according to the ISO standard 18013-5:2021 and to collaborate on future digital identity standards. The event, hosted by TMR, showcased the Queensland Digital Licence Application (DLA), allowing Queenslanders' driver licenses and photo IDs to be recognized and digitally verified globally - a first for Australia and New Zealand.
A key outcome of the summit was confirming the international usability of Queensland Digital Licences in jurisdictions recognizing the ISO standard. Thales led by Kamil Parizek, Technical Authority in Digital ID, with teams from Perth and Sydney actively participated, boosting the positive relationship with TMR. Thales recently achieved certification against the ISO 18013-5:2021 standard, solidifying its leadership in Digital ID solutions.
The upgraded Queensland DLA is set to launch to a wider pilot group in Townsville soon, followed by a state-wide release in 2023. Successful collaboration among local SMEs, Thales’ Australian project team, global experts, and Queensland Transport and Main Roads has been crucial to the project's progress, with strong customer-supplier cooperation.
