Thales Australia and Brisbane-based SME Revolution Aerospace are developing a unified drone traffic management system as part of the Emerging Aviation Technologies Partnership (EATP) Program. The project focuses on improving cargo delivery to remote and regional communities through larger-capacity drones.

“The EATP program will lay the foundation for a future where UAV delivery systems redefine logistics,” said Elita Huynh, the SkyLab Innovation Manager at Thales. Key developments include a digital twin for UAV integration, a Detect and Avoid payload, and test guidelines. Supported by Trusted Autonomous Systems and the Australian Government, the initiative addresses regulatory barriers with homegrown innovation. Recent trials at the Queensland test range mark a significant milestone. A major showcase is set for early 2024 in the Whitsundays, demonstrating full-scale operations across first, middle, and last-mile logistics in uncontrolled airspace.
