EDF, Thales, Ericsson, and Sequans Communications have jointly trialled private 5G technology to drive secure, sovereign innovation in industrial environments. Under a government-backed initiative, the partners deployed a private 5G network at an EDF R&D site, testing its high-speed, low-latency and secure connectivity in real-world conditions.

The trial explored advanced use cases such as IoT integration, geolocation of critical assets, and virtual SIM cards for enhanced device management. Unlike public mobile networks, dedicated private 5G guarantees controlled, resilient, and secure communication - an essential requirement for critical infrastructure and operational excellence.

For EDF, private 4G/5G promises automation of complex tasks, improved operational supervision, and safer field operations. The consortium’s findings will inform next-generation digital transformation and sovereign connectivity solutions for industry.
