Thales has today launched its new technology strategy for the UK at its first UK Technology Summit in London, attended by senior customers and partners from across defence, government and critical national infrastructure.

The strategy is built on a single idea: the smartest capability gains come from connecting what the UK already owns. It sets six principles for how Thales designs and delivers technology in the UK: partner focused (open, modular and reusable); sovereign and sustainable; digital and data first; secure, safe and resilient by design; built for integration and interoperability; and designed for system enhancement and rapid capability insertion.

Mike Sewart, Chief Technology Officer, Thales in the UK, said: “Our customers have asked industry for technology that is integrated, interoperable and delivered faster. This strategy is our answer. It commits us to connecting what the UK already owns, working openly with partners, and building sovereign capability that is secure and resilient by design.”

Speakers included Patrice Caine, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Thales, Phil Siveter, Chief Executive Officer of Thales in the UK, Mike Sewart and Rupert Pearce, the UK’s National Armaments Director. Demonstrations across four zones showed the strategy in service, from integrated air defence and the hybrid navy to soldier protection and the systems that secure everyday life, including borders, payments and identity.

Thales also announced a UK-hosted cloud hardware security module, giving regulated and public sector customers UK control over the root of trust for their encryption.
