Thales and HM Passport Office complete transition to the new Series D British passport
Thales has completed the transition to the new Series D British passport, a major milestone in its partnership with HM Passport Office (HMPO) under the Passport Production and Associated Services Agreement. The transition completed on 29 May 2026 with no disruption to the public.
The new passport features a refreshed design and enhanced security technologies, including a biographical data page made from translucent polycarbonate with the holder’s photograph and details laser-engraved into the material. This allows see-through security features that are extremely difficult to counterfeit.
Since the start of the current agreement, Thales has personalised and issued more than 40 million British passports on behalf of HMPO at its secure UK service sites, and supports HMPO’s Premium same-day service at seven locations across the UK.
