Effective since January 2023, the NIS2 Directive strengthens cybersecurity across critical sectors. The NIS2 Directive aims to reinforce cybersecurity across highly critical sectors, including critical production systems, railway, maritime and utilities. While often perceived as a compliance burden, it actually provides an opportunity to address the “digital dilemma”: balancing innovation and interconnected systems with increased exposure to cyber risks.

NIS2 promotes a risk-based approach, requiring organisations to assess vulnerabilities, prioritise protections and justify security decisions. Existing frameworks and standards already support implementation, such as IEC 62443 for industrial systems or sector-specific regulations across transport and utilities.

By strengthening cybersecurity, organisations can secure critical operations, ensure resilience and safely accelerate digitalisation. Ultimately, NIS2 is not only about compliance, but about enabling trust, protecting assets and unlocking innovation in an increasingly connected world.
