Mongolia’s national eID program provides citizens with ID cards that integrate facial and fingerprint biometrics, securely connected to a government database. Led by the General Authority for State Registration, it ensures fast, reliable, and secure identification, giving citizens easy access to a variety of public services. The card incorporates Thales’ Gemalto Window, a transparent feature containing a ghost image of the card holder for visual fraud protection, along with laser-engraved portraits on the polycarbonate card body to help prevent tampering. With “Match-on-Card” biometric authentication, identity verification remains private as biometric data never leaves the card, ensuring strong confidentiality and helping prevent identity fraud. In a nutshell, the system simplifies access to essential public services such as social security and healthcare, lowers administrative costs, and helps build stronger trust between citizens and government.
