- In 2019, Thales was awarded for having the most Outstanding Industrial Collaboration Programme by the Prime Minister of Malaysia thanks to our local industrial efforts.
- Thales also received a Recognition Award from the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) for our involvement in their Master’s Programme through the Industrial Collaboration Progamme (ICP) in 2024. Defence
Thales supports the Malaysian Armed Forces’ modernisation and has been involved in the three largest defence programmes for the Malaysian Forces, including the Ground-based Air Defence Programme; the AV8 tactical vehicle programme and now the restart of the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) programme.
From equipping the Navy with advanced sensors and maintaining superior air surveillance and air defence with GM400 radars, to delivering over 11,000 radios to the Army, Thales is present with solutions that meet the needs of all forces in Malaysia.

Civil Aviation
Thales supplies avionics equipment to Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia and provides robust support for equipment to ensure guaranteed turnaround times and reliability for all operating systems. In Air Traffic Management, Thales upgraded the Kota Kinabalu Flight Information Region system, delivering new radars, surveillance, and landing systems for 6 airports, with Miri Airport receiving a turnkey ATM system in 2022.
Cyber & Digital
Thales supports Malaysia’s digital ambitions with cybersecurity solutions for government and institutions. Its Card Personalisation Centre in Puchong serves major banks like CIMB and Maybank. Thales supplies Malaysia’s e-passport data page, featuring advanced UV security. Thales works closely with the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and Cyber Security Malaysia (CSM) in improving Malaysia’s cybersecurity posture, supported by a local team with over 25 years of experience.

Local Partnerships

Thales supports local growth through partnerships with Weststar, DEFTECH, ADS, Traumland, and the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM), focusing on technology transfer and human capital development. In 2017, Thales partnered with UPNM and Warwick Manufacturing Group to to create a Master’s of Science degree in International Technology Management for Defence and Security. Thales’ efforts to support the local defence industry has earned it the accolade of having the Most Outstanding Industrial Collaboration Programme by the Malaysia Prime Minister.
