As the Country Director of Thales Malaysia, I am committed to strengthening the trust and collaboration we have built with the Malaysian Armed Forces and agencies for over 45 years. Together, we have worked to ensure tactical superiority, safeguarding Malaysia’s sovereignty amid the ever-evolving demands of modern security operations.

Thales established its presence in Malaysia in 1981 and has become a strategic partner to key customers involved in the fields of Defence & Security, Aerospace and Cybersecurity & Digital Identity.

Today, Thales employs over 100 people in Malaysia, 90% of whom are local talents. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Thales has a strong installed base in Malaysia, with dedicated local Naval Support Centres located in Lumut and Kota Kinabalu, establishing our local footprint in these sectors to achieve Malaysia’s sovereign ambitions.

In the banking sector, Thales also operates a Card Personalisation Centre in Puchong, supported by a strong local team.

Thales presence in Malaysia is a long-term ambition anchored in strong partnerships with local partners and supported by a clear localisation strategy.

In recognition of its unwavering support for local industrial collaboration, Thales was honoured by the Prime Minister of Malaysia with the Most Outstanding Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) award for its role in key defence modernisation projects in 2018, and again in 2024 by the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) for contributing to their Master’s Programme through the ICP. Thales is fully committed to supporting the development of local capabilities and future talents by delivering diverse projects that benefit military, security, industry and education sectors.

Over the last four decades, Thales has played an instrumental part in supporting Malaysia’s defence ecosystem.

Thales offers the full scope of its defence expertise and experience in support of the modernisation plan for the Malaysian Armed Forces: state-of-the-art GM400α radars for superior air surveillance capabilities to the Royal Malaysian Air Force, advanced above water and underwater sensors & missions systems to equip the Royal Malaysian Navy’s fleet, as well as sovereign and tactical communications systems with the delivery of over 11,000 radios to the Army.

For decades, Thales has been proudly involved in the three largest defence programmes for the Malaysian Ministry of Defence: the Ground-based Air Defence (GBAD) Programme; the AV8 Tactical Vehicle Programme and the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) Restart Programme.
