Thales and Gibson Dunn have announced that they are combining their technical and legal expertise in a new partnership designed to help businesses and other organisations to meet their data security and protection challenges more effectively.

Data is the “black gold” of the twenty-first century and are a strategic asset for a majority of companies and organisations. As citizens require strong protection for their personal data stored in any company or organization, securing data from unauthorised access has become critical given the constant rise of cyberthreats. According to Thales latest Data Threat Report, 67% of companies experienced a data breach in 2017, an increase of 36% compared with the previous year.

Thales has more than 40 years of cybersecurity expertise, and Gibson Dunn is a business law firm with an in-house Digital & Innovation practice experienced in data protection and cybersecurity. The partners have decided to join forces to help companies and organisations implement effective data security and protection policies at a time when a raft of new cybersecurity legislation is coming into effect. The new alliance brings together a powerful array of complementary capabilities to offer customers legal and technical audits and consultancy services as part of a comprehensive set of services tailored to the various applicable regulations.
 
The European General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), applicable as of 25 may 2018, has become a major concern for managers in recent months. GDPR provides a strict framework designed to enhance people’s rights and provide them with better visibility and control over their personal data, how it is collected and used. Most of public-sector and private organisations are not compliant with the new regulation. Gibson Dunn and Thales will be coordinating their efforts to advise companies and organisations on how to comply with the new regulations and ensure that their data is protected and secure.
