Thales, a global technology leader in the Defense, Aerospace, Cybersecurity, and Digital sectors, and Samsung Electronics, announce today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding the availability of the Cryptosmart solution in selected Latin American markets, with an initial focus on Brazil, redefining data protection for the corporate and government sectors.
Cryptosmart, developed by Ercom, a Thales company dedicated to cybersecurity solutions, is an innovative mobile security solution that redefines communication protection both in government environments and for companies seeking to manage confidential data.
The partnership combines Thales and Ercom's expertise in high-level encryption with Samsung's robust technological ecosystem, through the Samsung Galaxy Enterprise Edition line. Together, the companies deliver a mobile platform that is versatile, optimized and secure, designed to support mission-critical operations across government and enterprise environments. The objective is to meet the growing security needs of governments, security forces, and organizations operating in sensitive environments, expanding access to protected communications based on trusted, scalable technologies prepared to face current and future cyber threats, such as those arising from quantum computing.
"This collaboration with Samsung represents a strategic step to expand the reach of our secure communications solutions, already consolidated in other regions. Our mission is to provide restricted-level security on high-performance commercial hardware, allowing Latin American organizations to reach a new level of sovereignty in their communications. With Samsung, we are delivering a tool that protects the daily lives of customers who demand the highest level of security without compromising usability," states Luciano Macaferri, Vice President of Thales for Latin America and General Director for Brazil.
"At Samsung, security is part of our DNA and one of the fundamental pillars of our company. Therefore, the partnership with Thales and Ercom reinforces our commitment to offering customized solutions for the B2B and government sectors, enabling the use of our Samsung Knox platform, a multilayer security foundation built into Galaxy devices to protect mobile endpoints from chip to cloud in real time. By integrating Cryptosmart technology into our Galaxy devices, we are empowering the region's leaders to operate with total confidence, safeguarding their most sensitive data against modern cyber threats and bringing an extra layer of security to our users," highlights HS Jo, President and CEO of Samsung Latin America.
Hardware prepared for critical missions
In a scenario where cybercrime grows exponentially, with a 13% increase in mobile malware and 83% of phishing attacks directed at mobile devices in 20241, the protection of critical data has become a priority. 30.6% of respondents to the Thales Data Threat Report 2025 classified mobile phones as their main concern related to cyberattacks, with another 29% ranking them as the second highest concern2. The Cryptosmart solution, in collaboration with Samsung, is the only one that combines the agility of latest-generation commercial devices (Galaxy smartphones and tablets) with a "Restricted" security level, approved by agencies such as ANSSI (National Cybersecurity Agency of France), for example.
To meet the durability and extended lifecycle requirements of the public and corporate sectors, the partnership leverages Samsung's dedicated B2B portfolio, with:
- Galaxy Enterprise Edition: the solution guarantees the operational continuity necessary for large government and business projects, offering devices with extended lifecycles, guaranteed security updates for up to 7 years, a three-year commercial warranty, and market consistency, vital for long-term fleet management. Built on Samsung Knox’s hardware-backed security architecture, Galaxy Enterprise Edition combines long-term reliability with enterprise-grade protection at scale.
- Galaxy Rugged Devices: for tactical forces and field operations, the integration covers the rugged device family (Galaxy XCover7 and Galaxy Tab Active5). These devices possess military certification (MIL-STD-810H) and IP68 resistance (to water and dust), ensuring that Thales' secure communication remains active even in the most hostile and challenging environments.
The agreement between the two companies will allow companies to use standard applications and modern hardware while maintaining end-to-end encryption for voice, data, and messages. Encryption keys are stored in a secure hardware element, the CyberSIM, ensuring information remains protected even in case of device loss or theft.
Commitment to local sovereignty
The initial focus of the cooperation will be the Brazilian market, expanding rapidly to other Latin American countries. The project aims to allow local players to manage their own digital sovereignty, utilizing robust infrastructure to protect industrial secrets and classified government information.
