The first cognitive radio

For decades, narrowband HF radios have been a mainstay of long range communication for armed forces for theatre, command & logistics operation, and often deployed a backup to SATCOM.

With the emergence of wideband HF capabilities, military users can now envision upgrading their networks to adapt respond to modern concepts of operations that require robustness and resilience in order to transmit real-time data. Wideband HF technology opens the way to new IP services.

Thanks to new data rate waveforms, which are 10 times faster than legacy HF, combined with the use of 4^th generation ALE (Automatic Link Establishment), the HF XL system can automatically select the best channels, the best bandwidth and the best throughput to transmit timely information like never before. HF XL also offers the feature to extending existing military networks like VHF, UHF and SATCOM, and offering BLOS coverage while maintaining a high level of service.

Thales and local Malaysian partner Advanced Defence Systems (“ADS”) Sdn. Bhd. signed a contract for the delivery of HF XL TRC 3900 complete vehicle-mounted radio stations.
