Alongside the Italian national defence
Thales in Italy has been supporting the Italian Armed Forces for over 30 years with a significant installed base on board of the main aeronautical, land and naval platforms: sonars, radios, electronic warfare, NAVAIDS.
These technologies are complemented by an entirely Italian team of experts with strong engineering capabilities in radio communications, system integration, cyber security, air traffic management, CBRN and served by dedicated local support centres for naval, radio communications and avionics.

Public security
Ensuring security across critical sites
Thales in Italy provides security and operations management solutions for critical infrastructures such as airports with significant domestic and international references.
From its Florence site, it has developed and delivered to airports across the world the AiRise solution, a scalable suite designed to make airport smarter, more efficient and safer, offering end-to-end security management of airport infrastructures, operations, data, passengers and personnel.
In addition, Thales supports ID and border management, public safety and law enforcement challenges through the identity and biometric solutions developed in its competence centre in Turin.
Civil aviation
Supporting sustainable air mobility worldwide
The historical site of Gorgonzola is the Group’s competence center for conventional air navigation systems and non-radar surveillance. Here, solutions that help manage air traffic in an increasingly efficient and sustainable way are designed, produced and installed in turn-key solutions.
Worldwide, the systems built in Gorgonzola cover more than 60% of those currently in service and contribute to creating a trusted airspace for aircrafts to take off, navigate and land safely anytime and anywhere.
In nearby Vergiate, Thales hosts its local avionics support centre for the maintenance of equipment installed on board aircrafts and helicopters to serve national fixed and rotary wing platforms manufacturers, airlines and Armed Forces.

Front runners for digitalization in the country
Thales in Italy is a key player in the banking and payment sector with a growing attention towards the use of eco-friendly payment cards and the digital offering provided to the main domestic financial institutions.
Thales also holds a leadership position within the mobile connectivity sector collaborating with operators as they transition to eSIM solutions and providing advanced connectivity solutions for the latest generation 5G networks.
Thanks to its technological state of the art solutions and a local team of cyber experts Thales is a strong player in cybersecurity and data protection, offering all the services an organization needs to protect and manage data, identity and intellectual property through encryption, advanced key management, tokenization, authentication and access management.

Leading space exploration
Thales Alenia Space, the joint venture between Thales and Leonardo, operates in Italy with 2800 employees spread over 4 sites, in Rome, Turin, L’Aquila and Milan.
It is the leading satellite operator in Europe and has over 50 years of experience in building systems and equipment for telecommunications, Earth observation, space exploration and navigation, environmental management, science and orbital infrastructures. The company contributes to many of today’s leading space programs, working for both government and commercial customers, including NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian space agency (ASI).
Thales Alenia Space in Italy invests massively in Research & Development to support a continuous stream of innovations and considers space as a new horizon, which makes it possible to improve and make life on Earth more sustainable.
