National Shipbuilding Strategy

Thales is a key partner for the non-combatant program of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), serving as the Tier 1 Electronic Systems Integrator for Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards. Thales is delivering advanced electronic and mission systems integration for Offshore Fisheries Science and Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and Joint Support Ships for the Royal Canadian Navy. 

Under the program, Thales is responsible for the selection, procurement and integration of the electronic systems and equipment onboard the vessels. We also support system design, development and installation activities to ensure they meet operational requirements throughout the construction process.

Working with over 70 suppliers across eight provinces, Thales is delivering value and excellence to the NSS with solutions that modernize innovation infrastructure and enable digital capabilities. We’re also creating hundreds of sustainable jobs across Canada, strengthening the national marine industrial base and fostering long-term economic growth and workforce development.

Platform In-Service Support

Thales is Canada’s partner of choice for In-Service Support of its Arctic Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and for over 100 of its Minor Warships and Auxiliary Vessels (MWAV). 

As the prime contractor for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) and Joint Support Ships (JSS) In-Service Support (AJISS) and MWAV programs, Thales works alongside the Fleet Maintenance Facilities and with more than 170 Canadian suppliers to keep the fleets mission-ready. This includes supporting the entire AOPV fleet of six ships and more than 100 vessels from 24 different classes under the MWAV contract. 

The AJISS in-service support contract represents a first-of-its-kind approach to procurement, enabling the Royal Canadian Navy to focus on what it does best, safely conducting the mission. Under the program, we deliver critical in-service support that ensures that ships are mission-ready and on time, every time. Trusted to sustain fleet availability and optimize performance, Thales plays an important role in keeping Canada’s naval forces fully operational.

To ensure mission-readiness from coast-to-coast, in 2025 Thales, together with the Malahat Nation, opened the West Coast Operations Centre. Working closely with the Royal Canadian Navy and the Fleet Maintenance Facilities to ensure Canada’s Pacific fleets are mission-ready.

Team Vigilance

Team Vigilance is a collaborative initiative between Thales, Vard Marine, Ontario Shipyards, SH Defence, and Fincantieri S.p.A to design, build, and equip the next-generation of naval vessels tailored for the Royal Canadian Navy's future Continental Corvettes.

Together with leaders across Canada’s marine industry, Thales will provide Combat Systems Integration (CSI) and Electronic Systems Integration (ESI) to modernize the Navy’s future fleet. Designed, built, and equipped in Canada, these digitally enabled, future-proofed ships will deliver the performance needed for critical missions at home and abroad.

Maritime Integrated Command and Control (IMIC3)

Thales integrates more than 70 systems through the Interdepartmental Maritime Integrated Command, Control, and Communications (IMIC3) program, deployed with the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard. This advanced solution delivers a unified maritime picture that enables seamless coordination across missions such as search and rescue, coastal surveillance, asset protection, anti-piracy, and interdiction. Designed for operational effectiveness, Thales delivers a comprehensive maritime mission management platform that enhances situational awareness and decision-making.
