Thales Mobile Biometric Identification, MBI, is a forensic-grade mobile app designed for security forces to enhance their field operations. It enables rapid, accurate biometric capture for near-real-time identity verification against remote databases or local watchlists. MBI also supports ID document reading, fast enrolments and allows to initiate a forensic investigation based on biometric evidence lifted on scene.

Empowering first responders

MBI embeds efficient automated mechanisms for detection, quality checks and post-processing to guarantee fast, optimal-quality multibiometric acquisition. It also features ID documents reading functions to collect within seconds biographic information for further computation.

Designed for the field, MBI boasts a high level of security and cyberprotection to protect data and transactions, supports offline operations continuity in DDIL (disconnected, disrupted, intermittent, and limited) communications environments.

Highly customisable, MBI closely fits operational needs by allowing the configuration of data fields, workflows, user language, separate or combined modality use, number of fingers to be captured.

MBI runs on multiple Android devices. Security forces opting for fingerprints contact acquisition, can simply complement their existing smartphone fleet by using add-on portable scanner, like Thales BlueCheck 4.

MBI is also compatible with many purpose-built, pre-integrated identification devices. The Thales MBI Tactical device, specifically designed for rugged environments, is a premium option.

MBI can detect and capture fingerprints using the device’s built-in camera, and doesn’t necessarily require additional hardware for this purpose. This capability enables, in particular, the capture of latent prints left on surfaces. MBI features a criminal case initiation function that allows field operators to subsequently transfer evidence records to the lab.

MBI is at the core of a full-fledge offering also including MBI Server and MBI SDK.

MBI Server is a software platform that serves both as a gateway and an administration interface. It enables MBI to interoperate with any system of records through a standard NIST-file-based interface. It also permits administrator to extensively manage devices and users, and thoroughly monitor their fleet. Remote deactivation, watchlists dissemination and terminals geolocation are but a few of the functions offered by MBIS Server.

For organizations who wish to create their own app, or to integrate MBI features into an existing app, MBI also comes as a development kit: MBI SDK is a developer-friendly, highly secure and comprehensive library that enables developers to leverage the reliability, speed and accuracy of Thales’ mobile algorithms.
