Thales has been awarded a contract by Eurosam to supply four SMART-L Multi-Mission/Naval (MM/N) radars for integration on French and Italian Horizon class frigates. Replacing the older S1850 radar, the SMART-L MM/N provides an extended range of up to 2000 km and enhances both air surveillance and ballistic missile defence capabilities. This fully digital AESA radar merges Anti Air Warfare and Ballistic Missile Defence in a single, adaptable system.

Operational on Royal Netherlands Navy frigates and selected by the Swedish Armed Forces, the SMART-L MM/N reinforces NATO interoperability and threat detection. Delivery of the first radar is scheduled for 2026. This selection marks another major milestone for Thales in naval defence, confirming the radar’s performance and adaptability for modern maritime operations.
