There is no equivalent to live training when it comes to troop preparation: participating in a live training exercise, in the real world, with real weapons, and against real opponents is as close as forces can get to the real battlefield experience. With a proven track record in land live training, Thales delivers efficient systems to armed forces, police and special forces, enhancing their skills and confidence so that they can take the right decision during decisive moments.

Based on laser and data communication technology, Thales’ GLADIATOR live training system immerses forces in real-world, combat simulations. Modular, scalable and interoperable, it supports a wide range of weapons and vehicles, enabling training in any terrain. Performance is tracked across multiple dimensions to generate rich debriefings deriving maximum value from limited available training time.

FEATURES

High-performance laser transmitters accurately simulate shots across each weapon’s effective range, including long-range systems such as sniper rifles, main guns, and missiles. Ballistics and time-to-target are modeled using two-way laser technology, with lethality determined by hit location, protection, and weapon caliber. Soldiers experience realistic cues such as near-miss sounds, untreated wound progression, and battlefield effects like smoke, light, and sound, enhancing immersion and strengthening stress inoculation.

GLADIATOR adapts to any scenario, from small-unit training in urban environments to large-scale exercises. Its modular and scalable architecture allows seamless integration of vehicles, indirect fire, and various mission setups. With changeable laser codes, it enables joint, combined, and inter-service exercises with partners for full interoperability. Designed for flexibility, GLADIATOR provides effective and adaptable preparation for any operation.

Deployed in renowned Combat Training Centers such as GAZ, BATUK (Switzerland), and CENZUB (France), GLADIATOR benefits from direct user feedback since 2010, including our operation of the GAZ as a Full-Service Provider (FSP). This continuous field experience ensures a robust, user-friendly, and cost-effective solution, trusted by armed forces for its reliability and operational efficiency.

Weapons feature uniquely precise laser transmitters, either mounted on real firearms or built into replicas. Lightweight and ergonomic body equipment detects hits from any angle and simulates first aid, CBRN threats, and protection. Vehicles use two-way laser technology for accurate engagement simulation and can integrate visual and sound effects for full immersion.

From the Exercise Management System (EMS) center, instructors monitor training via geolocation, radio traffic, and video feeds, and can trigger events such as indirect fire. Playbacks and statistics enhance debriefings, while portable devices enable field supervision. Leveraging our expertise in AI and close cooperation with military training experts, we are re-thinking tactical training and After Action Review (AAR) with our Data Analytics Solution, developing new metrics that significantly enhance the value of training from platoon level and beyond.
