Defence in Germany

Thales enjoys the highest level of trust when it comes to defence solutions. We reliably support armed forces in achieving and maintaining tactical superiority and strategic independence against threats of all kinds. From intelligent sensors and advanced defence systems to solutions for networked combat and the connectivity and equipment of soldiers on the digital battlefield, our systems ensure information superiority and full freedom of action.

Thales in Germany has been supporting the German Armed Forces in its important mission with command and reconnaissance equipment since its inception. Our solutions range from individual sensors and combined radar and optronic systems to complex command and control information and reconnaissance systems and electronic warfare capabilities. We secure the field camps of the German Armed Forces and its allies against a wide range of threats, even in the most demanding areas of operation – precisely, effectively and around the clock.

Dimensions

Army

Within the framework of the German Armed Forces' mission, the land dimension not only accounts for the largest share of personnel within all branches of the armed forces. As the core of the German land forces and the provider of land operations and airborne operations, the Army is also the backbone of all long-term foreign missions of the German Armed Forces. The need for mission-supporting systems is correspondingly diverse and extensive, whether in the field of optronics, radar, protection systems, communications or training.

Navy

The navy provides the German Armed Forces with extensive capabilities in the maritime domain – both on the water and underwater. Long missions, often in multinational constellations, require not only optimal training in advance, but also complex weapon control systems, security-critical communication systems and state-of-the-art cryptotechnology. This also entails special requirements for the hardware needed in the field, such as sensors, optronics, radars and sonars. Partners such as Thales, who also support the navy in areas such as maintenance, repair and modernisation, are indispensable in this regard.

Air Force

The Air Force is responsible for securing German airspace and transporting troops, equipment and cargo by air. The second largest branch of the German Armed Forces provides air support to ground forces and carries out air rescue missions. The more modern aircraft become, the more extensive the training required for crews to master and operate these complex systems. This goal can only be achieved through the intensive use of high-quality simulators. They make it possible to improve the quality of training while reducing the number of expensive real flight hours, which also have a negative impact on the environment. With its extensive experience in providing training and simulation solutions for military aircraft platforms, Thales is an established partner to the armed forces.

Cyber and Information Space (CIR)

With over 20 years of experience, Thales is the European market leader in cyber security and the global market leader in data protection. Thales addresses the entire life cycle of information security, the cornerstone of digital trust. We place the security of armed forces, government agencies, private companies and critical infrastructure providers at the heart of our product and solution portfolio. We work closely with the relevant regulatory organisations in the various areas of application for cyber security, such as the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), and offer a broad portfolio of solutions for electronic key management.
