Thales' latest avionics upgrade for ATR aircraft, Red Label 1, has received positive feedback following its integration into the ATR-600 series. The system introduces four major innovations:

  • Synthetic Vision System (SVS): Displays 3D terrain data on the Primary Flight Display (PFD), enhancing pilots’ situational awareness, especially in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).
  • Temporary Flight Plan Function: Allows pilots to preview and assess alternative flight paths before confirming trajectory changes.
  • Inertial Reference System (IRS): Provides high-integrity position data, complementing the aircraft’s existing attitude control units.
  • Enhanced LOC Capture & Autopilot Enhancements: Helps pilots align with the runway axis more efficiently, even at high speeds and large intercept angles. Additional autopilot safety measures, such as low-speed protection, further improve flight envelope management.

ATR test pilots and operators like Air New Zealand have praised these new functionalities, particularly the SVS and Enhanced LOC Capture systems, for their contributions to flight safety and operational efficiency.
