What are Galileo OS (Open Service) and PRS (Public Regulated Service)?


Galileo OS and PRS core modules are modules designed to be hosted into third-party (non-Thales) GPS/GNSS receivers. They process GPS and Galileo satellite signals to deliver precise positioning services.

  • The OS core module for Safe Navigation (Open Service) uses the Galileo’s open signals and is intended for civil or safety-critical uses, offering accurate and reliable navigation. It suits a wide range of applications—civilian or military—that do not require enhanced security features.
  • The PRS core module for Secure Navigation (Public Regulated Service) includes advanced cryptographic protection, specifically designed for critical or military operations requiring strong resilience against electronic threats such as jamming and spoofing. As an enhanced version of the OS module, PRS is tailored for high-security and demanding environments, such as military missions, providing maximum reliability and availability even in hostile conditions.
