Cutting-edge equipment combining to provide a robust layer of Navigation Electronic Warfare protection
Today’s naval forces operate against a backdrop of Electronic Warfare, particularly with regard to Navigation, or NAVWAR (Navigation Electronic Warfare). The main aspects of NAVWAR are GPS jamming and GPS spoofing. GPS jamming involves powerful signals being transmitted, thus saturating the GPS radio frequency channel and disabling GPS navigation. GPS spoofing consists of providing fake GPS signals to mislead the user and falsify their navigation. In order to safeguard a vessel’s operational capabilities, it is critical to increase its resilience to these attacks.
Thales has developed several complementary types of equipment that individually provide a layer of Navigation Electronic Warfare protection, and collectively deliver complete, resilient navigation capabilities.
- TopShield is an anti-jamming antenna that cleans the GPS radio frequency signal from multiple jammer attacks. Capable to neutralize jamming attacks, it ensures GPS availability much closer (more than 100 times) to the jamming source.
- TopStar M is a military GPS unit using encrypted signals that prevents the corruption of GPS navigation data. It provides an increased level of protection towards GPS spoofing attacks.
- TopAxyz INS is a high-precision Inertial Navigation System that is insensitive to all Navigation Electronic Warfare attacks, providing NMn/72H positional drift for all types of vessels and complementary functions to monitor GPS spoofing aggression and provide a safe recovery navigation solution.
The association of those various Thales capabilities in an integral navigation system provides multiple and complementary levels of resilience increasing mission continuity and security through accurate trusted navigation.
Mastering the design of each critical equipment type, Thales delivers guaranteed overall navigation system performance levels to provide the user with the most resilient navigation solution.
